John Smith 7 місяців тому The guy that messed up on number three deserved it. He came in all  rared  back  like he knows everything.; Didn't touch down, until I was ready to do a touch and go. No wonder he ran out of runway. Apparently he thinks if you are unfamiliar, just blast in there, and hope for the best. I'd  be interested in what damage was done, and the estimate.

  • Mark Sketch
Mark Sketch 7 місяців тому (змінено) uri p that’s what a touch and go is, or TOGA, it is a go around, the fact that his wheels touched the tarmac the terminology is the same. You are correct he should of done a TOGA or go around as it was obvious that he traveled halfway down and still tried to to a full stop. I think I remember that there where no fatalities and just minor injuries, of course the plane was a rightoff.
  • Francis Flood

  • pacific231g david
pacific231g david 7 місяців тому A touch and go is normally intentional, usually to get more take-offs and landings into a training or practice session. When you decide to abort a landing for whatever reason that's normally called as a Go Around as in "Golf Papa Zulu going around" The pilot may make that decision at any point in the approach and landing sequence including having just touched down. Assuming he wasn't having engine trouble, the pilot in the video clearly should have done a Go Around but pilots are human and we can all misjudge things. Go arounds are actually more dangerous than either standard take offs or landings because the pilot has to go from one mindset to another in an instant so they do need to be practiced and ISTR that they're the most common situation for departure stalls. They shouild be safer though than continuing with an approach or landing that's going pear shaped.
  • Mark Sketch
Mark Sketch 7 місяців тому pacific231g david totally agree with you, I was commenting on a post stating that they had never heard of a go around and that it wasn’t a phrase used in aviation, when we all know a go around is a common saying and you did a better job of answering than I did. Thx for your reply
  • Metal Jeeper
Metal Jeeper 6 місяців тому No idea what got into this pilot's head that he didn't realize he wasn't flying a STOL bird. He obviously didn't know his Baron very well or he would've known you need more than 20 feet of tarmac to stop it. What a putz!
  • X Aviation
X Aviation 6 місяців тому @Francis Flood Have you tried touching down on a 600 meter with only 100 meters remaining at 60ish Knots and doing a G/A ?
  • Mark Sketch
Mark Sketch 6 місяців тому Metal Jeeper yup, Shame is he had plenty of time to go around but he pushed on with trying to land until it was just to late. I have no idea what must of been going through his head, maybe he panicked and push the wrong levers to full, that’s the only thing I can think of and I know it’s clutching at straws so I think this is just a bad pilot with a case of get me home itus. Thing is your supposed to complete specialist training to land here??
  • Mark Sketch
Mark Sketch 6 місяців тому X Aviation he could of done a G/A well before he ran out of runway until he got to close to the end and he ran out of options, but two-three seconds before his wheels even touched the runway he could of gone around and even maybe a second or so afterwards also.
  • Andrew Kavanagh
Andrew Kavanagh 6 місяців тому I thought the pilot was going to touch and go. Not try to land.
  • Mark Sketch
Mark Sketch 6 місяців тому Andrew Kavanagh yup I can understand why you would think that, but you can see him or her struggling to get it down and even at the time of the wheels on the runway if the pilot hit full power straight away i believe that he could still of made a successful go around. Only the pilot can know what was going through his mind but he decided to full brakes on and tried to make a full stop landing. Personally I just can’t understand why
  • ArJuna22
ArJuna22 6 місяців тому TOGA is a setting in your flight computer for takeoffs and landings which controls your auto-throttles. This does not exist in anything but large modern aircraft. That Cessna 310 or whatever that was that went off the runway does not have an auto-throttle and therefore no TOGA function. It can be found in mid-sized corporate jets and some turboprops, and of course in all large jets. The plane in the video was a by the seat of the pants flight control. BTW, I've landed at that airport and it took me three attempts and two aborts before I finally hit the approach correctly. That steep drop before touchdown is a mother fucker.

Darrin Nelson 4 місяці тому I think it is easy to judge... that runway should NOT even exist. Looking to the right it seems they had more flat land and possibly could have had it go at an angle and perhaps increase length. There are just too many adverse variables including the elevated ground level on the approach. Avoid!
  • Scott Murphy

  • Yhelnhats Khan
Yhelnhats Khan 4 місяці тому @Mark Sketch s/he can't declare a miss approach and just go around, all planes are decelerates during landing, in order to make a miss approach you need to gain more speed in order for you to take of
  • SupraTico
SupraTico 4 місяці тому (змінено) @yheinhats He already had way too much speed! That's why he was floating it down the runway. All he had to do was punch it, hold it level, and when airspeed started rising, pull back gently.

  • Mark Sketch
Mark Sketch 4 місяці тому SupraTico exactly what I’ve been trying to tell some of these people, you don’t even have to be a pilot to see that, just a basic state of common sense 👍
  • Mark Sketch
Mark Sketch 4 місяці тому Yhelnhats Khan not true, he still was airborne for most of the way down the runway, meaning he still has enough airspeed to stay in the air, all he had to do was put on full power and gently “depending on his actual airspeed” pull away, he decided he still had enough runway to land for some unknown reason, you perform a go around you don’t have to declare it until you have your situation under control. Your obviously not a pilot, so, if you are a car driver I will put it in these terms, say you want pull off a main road but only notice it at the last minute, you start to brake but then realise that you can’t stop in time, so you stay on the main road and start accelerating again to stay on the main road to drive to the next exit then come around to try again. I know there is an added element of physics here but my basic explanation for this case as explained above is sufficient.

  • Mark Sketch
Mark Sketch 4 місяці тому Scott Murphy well said 👍. I’ve done the Gibraltar one a few times. It seems easy enough but then out of nowhere you get a down surge and then the opposite all within 2 seconds. All you can do is go around when the winds off the rock are unstable. Those where my days as a CH-47 driver for the RAF, so in a rotary it is actually more severe. Gibraltar is technically a military airfield and is controlled and ran by the Military, although as this is the British locals only means of air travel it now sees more than a 50/50 use just for civilian use. My use for go around is when we where doing fast run ins for training purposes but I’ve heard of guys just taxing at 6ft around the field and suddenly getting slammed into the ground. No way of predicting it at all.

At least this way he had a reasonable (even if dangerous) chance of stopping.

  • Andy McGeever
Andy McGeever 3 тижні тому I am a pilot and i can assure you that as many have already suggested here, you have absolutely no idea what you are talking about. As for too fast, are you referring to airspeed or ground speed? The correct airspeed is predetermined by the aircraft type and landing configuration. The correct ground speed by the wind conditions. You have no idea what speed he was doing or what speed he should be doing. You also have no idea whether this airfield was unfamiliar to the pilot or not. Suggesting a touch and go shows that you don't even have a basic grasp on procedural actions. You also have no idea what the circumstances were that might in fact have led to a no choice committal to land. In fact, not one sentence of your comment means anything and clearly displays to the world that you in fact know absolutely fuck all about aviation. I have no doubt that you are the type who thinks they can learn to fly an actual airliner on FSX. Keep living the dream fanboy, remember to press pause when your mom calls you for dinner.
